Author & Swim Coach Aunt Cindy & Me!
Sports Mom Mantra Shop Local : Favorite Things #2

When I was little, I hated getting my face wet in the water, or my nose or my ears.  Even today, I’m not a confident swimmer.  Yeah, I had swim lessons as a kid, but I just never got over it or comfortable with it.

That’s why I‘m so excited to introduce you to Sue Nami and her swimming journey! This little book, authored by Coach Cindy Klein, is perfect for the sports mom (or future sports mom) who wants to start reading to their little one about learning to swim and not be scared of the water!

The character Sue Nami is absolutely adorable and her wildlife friends help her learn to breathe, balance and move starting on dry land, even before her first swim class!   I really wish I had this book to rad to my EJ when she was little!

Of course, it’s one of my new favorite things because Coach Cindy Klein is actually my amazing aunt...and I’ve been waiting for this books debut on Amazon...check it out!

No Grass Stains...No Glory

Picture
Do you take the chance?

Do you dive to make the catch?

How do you live your life - by embracing a challenge or shying away.

When you put yourself out there, you build your courage muscle so you have a bit more to use the next time.

Tell the Truth...to Yourself

Picture
Ever hear the saying “the truth can hurt?”

It’s about being uncomfortable, being honest with yourself and understanding what is blocking you from being the best that you can be.

Is it time to give pause, get curious and look inward?

Life can change dramatically when you make it your responsibility to tell yourself the truth.
It often means change and moving from comfort to uncomfortable - because that is where the magic happens.
So what’s your truth?

When you say Wisconsin...you’ve said it all!

Hi there,

I’m Amy, creator of Sports Mom Mantra, a place where you’ll find phrases, thoughts and mindful mantras to say to yourself or your kiddos.

As a sports mom I find myself doing some of the same things over and over again, before or after game day or a weekend tourney or having some of the same conversations with my daughter.

Anyone else feel like you are just repeating yourself?  I figured, why not share some of my favorite mantras, quotes and other inspirations with the world.  So here goes!

Learn From Setbacks

Words to Use: "I believe in You"

Picture
Players need encouragement, advice and support as they work through the disappointment of a loss. Some might place blame on themselves saying they lost the game because of something they did, others might start casting blame on their teammates.  So what do we say, how do we help them understand?  We can start with the big picture, we’re reminding them that it’s not about “being perfect” it’s about staying positive and coming back next time.

Here are a few tips:
  • Tell them “I believe in you.”
  • Offer to practice the game situation with a group of friends or family or help them visualize it thinking through the steps they would take.
  • Ask them what they would have done differently talk them through it.

Feed Your Mind: Hope

Words to Say: "Your Mind Will Believe What You Tell It"

Picture
Girls can be so hard on themselves when it comes to their ability to play a sport. They think they will hit the ball every time and catch every ball.  And, when they don't, they beat themselves up and tell themselves they are no good.

Understanding that our minds tend to make up stories based on how we are feeling, what mood we are in and what we think about our abilities.  These stories are often not true, they are made up lies that defeat us and make us feel small.

Here are some tips:
  • Talk about thinking more hopefully - the idea that something good will happen
  • When your player is telling herself an untrue story, share your observation and remind her of the facts
  • Give hugs, love and encourage her to love herself
  • Offer to practice with her to help her improve her skills
